LOTUSMAN Brand History

With the wave of the Industrial Revolution sweeping across France,
machines gradually replaced manual labor, and a group of families at
the forefront of the Industrial Revolution began to rise, including the
Bonard family. The Bonard family has always been renowned for their unique
jewelry inlaying techniques, exquisite hand carving skills, and fine clock
making techniques. The jewelry, ornaments, and clocks they produce are
deeply loved by the aristocrats and socialites of Paris. The improvement
of production efficiency has also led to the continuous expansion of the
Bonard family’s industrial scale.

In 1893, the fifth generation descendant of the
Bonard family, Louis Bonard, was born.
Louis Bernard showed extraordinary talent in handmade crafts at a young age.
In order to enable him to have better development, in 1908, his father sent Louis
Bernard, who was fifteen years old, to the world’s top watchmaking school at
the time – the Geneva Apprentice Watch School, to further his knowledge of
clock making. During this period, he not only mastered rich knowledge and
production techniques of watches, but also had contact with numerous master
watchmakers, which greatly broadened his horizons.

In 1913, Louis Bernard returned to France before he could
apply his watchmaking skills to his family’s business, and
World War I broke out. The war dealt a devastating blow to
the Bonard family, with Louis Bonard’s father killed, his lover
Lorraine missing, and the family’s wealth plundered.

In 1923, Louis Bernard traveled alone to Switzerland and applied his family’s
handmade carving skills to watch making. The printed engraved watches he
made were highly praised by some Swiss watchmakers. In 1930, Louis Bernard
reunited with his lover Lorraine. After their reunion, the two returned to France
and founded the LOTUSMAN brand, specializing in the customization of watches.

In 1939, World War II broke out and the Bonard couple sold most
of their assets to help the poor people who were deeply
persecuted by the war. After World War II, as the economy
recovered and brand management improved, Louis Bernard
established a charity fund specifically to help those in need.

Louis Bernard passed away in 1969, and his son Francis Bernard took over the
management of the brand. At that time, Rotissiman had developed into a
comprehensive fashion brand integrating fashion watches, jewelry, leather
perfume and other products.

The Love Story of Louis Bernard

In 1913, Louis Bernard, who was studying clock knowledge in Geneva, met the beautiful German girl Lorraine and fell in love at first sight. The two spent a wonderful and sweet time together in Geneva, believing that they were each other’s lifelong partners. But the warm and sweet couple life did not last long. One year later, Lorraine was returning to Germany to celebrate her grandfather’s birthday, while Louis Bernard had completed his studies in Geneva and was asked by his father to come home and take over the family business. The two bid farewell with reluctance.
After confessing their relationship to their families, both of them unexpectedly faced strong opposition from their respective families. The long-standing grudges between France and Germany, as well as the increasingly tense international situation at the time, have left this young couple in great distress. Although the opposition from their family did not shake their determination to be together, in 1914, World War I broke out and the four-year war ultimately severed their connection.
Until 1930, the two who had been separated for fifteen years were fortunate enough to reunite in Geneva. During the more than ten years of being missing, both of them persevered in searching for each other, and ultimately their boundless longing turned into the joy of reunion. After reuniting with Lorraine, Bonard decided to return to France and start his own business. Lorraine also resolutely chose to accompany Bonard and help him. The Bonard couple, who returned to France, created their own fashion brand LOTUSMAN in Paris. The brand’s totem is the lotus flower with the phrase “two flowers bloom, stem from the same root”, and the romantic swan with crossed necks is the brand logo, commemorating their steadfast love for each other.
In 1935, Louis Bernard and Lorraine’s son Francis Bernard were born, and they had their own love story. Under the careful management of the two, the development of Rorty’s poetry vine is thriving, with “love” as the spiritual core of the brand. It is not only a commemoration of the Bonard couple’s love for themselves, but also includes their admiration for faithful love in the world.
Louis Bernard and Monet, Lotus Man's Parallel Love
The artillery fire of World War I dealt a huge blow to Louis Bonard. His father, who had always been the backbone of the family, unfortunately died in the fire, and his lover Lorraine, who was far away in Germany, completely lost contact. The family’s wealth was also looted. During this gloomy period, Louis Bernard met the French Impressionist painter Claude Monet by chance. In order to comfort the disillusioned young man, Monet told Bonard his story of his relationship with “Bantilin”:
Due to the death of his beloved wife, Monet did not paint for ten years. Later, with the introduction of Eastern aesthetics to Europe, he seemed to find comfort in lotus flowers and picked up his paintbrush again. In the concept of Eastern aesthetics, lotus is the “sacred flower”, symbolizing the blessing of “only beginning, never fading away”, and the lotus with a double stem, which is difficult to find among thousands of lotus flowers, symbolizes the sincere love of “withering and prospering together, relying on each other”. This viewpoint resonated with Monet, isn’t that how he and his deceased wife were? She has passed away, but she still lingers in my heart! He placed his longing for his deceased wife in lotus flowers and painted beautiful and elegant water lilies one by one.
Bonard was moved by Monet’s story and found solace in Monet’s water lily paintings, reigniting hope for life. Later, on the eve of setting off for Switzerland, he carved a lotus flower from Monet’s painting onto the back of his watch, hoping that this lotus flower truly had magic and could protect him from finding his missing lover. Bonard, who went to Switzerland, finally reunited with his lover Lorraine, which made him even more convinced of the magic of “Bingtian Lian”. Afterwards, Bonard named his fashion brand “LOTUSMAN”, which means “Lotus Man”, an angel created by lotus, time, and true love. And the lotus flower is also regarded as a brand totem carved on the products of Roti Shiman.
